Welcome to the
Camden County Amateur Radio Emergency Service. We are a group
of men and women Amateur Operators dedicated to providing emergency
communications to the local area residents in times of disaster. Each Amateur
member has spent countless hours learning technical and legal information
necessary for obtaining an FCC amateur radio license. Using this license
and personal radio equipment, each member is ready to provide necessary health
and welfare communication, when other means of communication fail. Our
local organization follows stringent guide lines set by the Amateur Radio Relay
League and was created for the sole purpose of providing backup emergency
communications in local, state and national emergencies.
Our Camden County ARES® organization is
sanctioned by the ARRL,** which was
founded in 1914. The 150,000-member ARRL - The National
Association for Amateur Radio is the national association for Amateur Radio in
the USA. The ARRL not only reflects the commitment and many enthusiasms of
American hams, but also provides leadership as the voice of Amateur Radio in the
USA, whether in dealings with the Federal Communications Commission, the World
Administrative Radio Conference, the International Amateur Radio Union, or with
the general public. The ARRL is the primary source of information about what is
going on in the ham radio world. It provides books, news, support and
information for individuals and clubs, special operating events, all sorts of
continuing education classes and other benefits for its members. Being a member
of the ARRL is important for hams! *

What is ARES?
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES®) consists of licensed
amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for
communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed
amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national
organization, is eligible for membership in the ARES. The only qualification,
other than possession of an Amateur Radio license, is a sincere desire to serve.
Because ARES is an amateur service, only amateurs are eligible for membership.
The possession of emergency-powered equipment is desirable, but is not a
requirement for membership.

CEMA AND ARES®
The mission of the Camden
Emergency Management Agency
(CEMA) is to
protect lives and property from the threat of all types of major
emergencies and disasters, both natural and manmade. This shall be
accomplished by providing community-wide leadership, guidance,
support and coordination in the areas of mitigation, preparedness,
response and recovery. ARES® supports CEMA with vital
communications necessary for emergency management personnel to
perform their duties in times of major emergencies and disasters.
Where and when do we meet?
We meet on the second Thursday of every month at the
County Annex Building (behind the county library at the corner Gross Road and
Highway 40) in the Annex Conference Room.
Would you like to become a member?
In order to become a member you must first
